When women lead peace processes: Seminar in Copenhagen marks 25 Years of UN Security Council Resolution 1325
When women lead peace processes: Seminar in Copenhagen marks 25 Years of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 How can we ensure that women continue to have a strong voice in peace and security even in times of crisis, conflict, and backlash? This is the central question as Danish and international civil society organizations come together in Copenhagen for a two-day seminar on 1–2 October 2025. Join us for the 25th anniverseryOn 1–2 October 2025, Danish and international civil society organizations will gather in Copenhagen to mark the 25th anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security. The seminar is organized by Oxfam Denmark, the Women’s Council Denmark, DanChurchAid, and the Danish Family Planning Association on behalf of the Danish WPS Network. Why the WPS-agenda is more important than everResolution 1325, adopted in 2000, affirmed that women must have full, equal, and meaningful participation in peace processes and decision-making. Since then, women and women-led organizations have played crucial roles in conflict prevention, peacebuilding, and humanitarian response. Yet the global WPS agenda faces growing challenges: climate crises, protracted conflicts, and political backlash threaten women’s rights and safety, while women’s organizations continue to experience severe underfunding. Take part in strengthening the Women, Peace and Security-agendaThe Copenhagen seminar provides an opportunity to take stock: what progress has been made over the past 25 years, and what steps lie ahead? Through knowledge sharing, experience exchange, and joint reflection, Danish and global actors will work together to identify good practices, challenges, and new strategies to strengthen the Women, Peace, and Security agenda in a time marked by crises and change. A unique opportunity for DenmarkThis year, Denmark plays a special role on the international stage with a new national action plan on Women, Peace, and Security, a seat on the UN Security Council, and the upcoming EU Presidency. This presents a unique opportunity to strengthen efforts to ensure women’s rights and leadership in peace and security globally.
